With
Jimmy James you get exactly what the title of his show suggests but with
some surprising twists and turns on the way. He is a slick, professional
entertainer hailing originally from San Antonio, Texas, but now living
in New York. He is a first time performer on the Fringe. He has a voice
that can powerfully and convincingly impersonate a wide selection of
voices as contrasting as Patsy Kline and Cher.
His links
between songs are gently humorous and of course he does camp it up but
in a playful way. He uses a film screen to perform a duet with the real
Judy Garland and his impersonation of Barbra Streisand. This is a real
high point in the show.
With 20
years in the entertainment industry he knows how to work and win over an
audience very different from what I suspect he is used to back in the
States. His show is a well crafted act and is more than a demonstration
of vocal dexterity.
