Being at a Sam Simmons show is like being in the eye of a very funny comedy hurricane with words, images and sound whirling past in a mad, mixed up way. He performs to a sound track with a driving beat. For much of his routine he uses a flipchart with piles of cartoon drawings to illustrate his theme of problems.

From time to time he breaks into song, still constantly on the move. He riffs with the audience ‘Weird isn’t it’. To get back to more understandable stand up, he does some gags and anecdotes.

Bizarre and at times puzzling, he is certainly different. Many comedians build up to a big finish. He does the reverse by calming things down and the hurricane is scaled down to a gentle breeze.
