James Sherwood – At The Piano |

As James Sherwood
admitted, the intentionally vague title of his show gives him licence
to talk, and sing, about pretty much anything he likes. And he does.
I had previously
seen James perform a 15 minute set at the Amnesty International gig 'Live
and Ungagged' in Carlisle, which I had enjoyed a lot and it was on the
basis of this that I had booked to see his full Edinburgh show. James'
style of piano based comedy isn't going to be taxing any brains or
generating any controversy at this year's Fringe but I would challenge
anyone not to enjoy his easy going comedy. The opening song railing
against guitar players, which finishes by James admitting that he 'just
wants to be one', sets the tone for the rest of the show, with songs such
as 'Tesco Rendezvous' and 'The Complaints Chorus' generating plenty of
chuckles from the audience. James even managed to spend a good ten minutes
getting laughs from the pre-set demonstrations on his keyboard.
With several
chances for the audience to sing-a-long, and plenty of giggles to be had I
would recommend seeing James Sherwood's show, although his early evening
slot may mean that it clashes with some of the bigger names of the Fringe
and therefore might be a difficult show to squeeze into a busy schedule.
