Kate Smurthwaite’s stand up belongs to
the category of educomedy. Enjoy her charming style of comedy and be
gently informed about our nearest relations in the animal kingdom
– orang-utans, gorillas and chimps, the closest of them all.
The warmth of her personality encourages
interaction with the audience and she received great feedback as she
examined the characteristics we share with our primate cousins. She
does have one personal self indulgence, that of the cruelly weak
pun, but she does give advance warning and the audience were
forgiving.
Evolution is a natural topic and she
ridicules the beliefs of the creationists. Rounding off her show she
takes the basic human form and asks the audience to suggest
improvements in our design. She had much fun running with the loads
of ideas that resulted.
An engaging and witty performance.
