Andrew McClelland is an irresistible and
likeable talent. The theme of his show is the art of making the mix
tape to send to a loved one which, with the demise of the cassette
tape, may become a lost skill. This theme allows him to cast his eye
over a huge range of pop music from The Beatles to Radiohead.
His routine is liberally spread with barbs
against silly and shallow lyrics in all kinds of music whether it is
soul or metal or hip hop. He also sends up various dance styles.
This is no mean feat given the limited space in which he operates
and his physical build.
The finale is a sing a long in which the
audience fully participate. My overall impression is of his energy
and stage presence rather than his material which was stronger in
the first half of his set.
