Two stars for the price of one, that's
what you get with this show, but that's not fair, it's really
three and there's an understudy also, and all in under an hour.
Micky
Flanagan opened the show on the night I saw it, it's not always
that way so I 'm told, but anyway Micky was very good, with some
genuinely funny material all delivered with a laid back cheeky
cockney style and his half hour disappeared all to fast.
Then
enter the star of the show, oh and Nina Conti was there with him
also. Monk, the militant monkey, almost a guerrilla in the way he
treats his very talented mentor. I suppose it is always the puppet
that has the best lines, and boy did he have a barrow load to
choose from. Ms Conti has the technique to seem amused as well as
disgusted at the more outrageous lines that the cheeky chimp
'delivered' somewhat in the style of a mother with a precocious
child.
This
double act certainly had the audience in stitches in their part of
the set, and we also met Monks understudy, but to be honest he
only had a supporting role in the finale of any note.
This
show is doing great business already selling out on almost every
night, my advice do anything necessary to get a ticket, and Psst,
I've heard that Monk is very fond of bananas so you could always
try bribery if all else fails.
