Jimmy Carr ; Charm Offensive
Comedy Cafe Management
Jimmy Carr has entitled his show this year Charm Offensive. I can certainly see the charm, as he is charm personified, offensive? I suppose it depends on your point of view, the are one or two gags that could possibly have caused offence, but these were way, way outnumbered by some good and at times great material.
Jimmy was nominated for the Perrier Award last year, and was not too upset(!) that he did not win. This nomination has certainly done no harm for his career, as he tells us of visits to the USA and of TV programmes he's fronted. And he has also written a play which he gets audience members to assist with.
Jimmy plays heavily on his middle class background and that is certainly a large chunk of 'gift' material. I was particularly impressed with his small ads and his tee shirt slogans.
As Jimmy has become better known, I'm not sure if he is still eligible for this years Perrier. If he is, I would reckon he is a sure fire certainty to win, and the public seem to agree as the bad news, his entire run is sold out, the good news he's going to be adding extra dates so watch this space.
