Jason
is one of those I must see this show at all costs fringe rituals! Seeing
him has for the past four years been some of the best medicine, he
always makes me laugh so much I am almost in tears and usually
aching all over.
I also wonder where he gets all the energy from especially
as he now has a three year old in the family, he is and always has
been manic, getting him to stand still for more than a few seconds
seems almost impossible. This year he has two shows in week three
and is always doing things like ‘Late N Live’, ‘BBC Stand Up
Show Live’ and other late comedy shows.
His
show is in Pleasance 1 which is a large end on performance space
and I wasn’t sure if his performance style would work as well as
in the spaces where he is almost surrounded
by his audience, thanks to his magic torch (see Jason
Byrne - Hates!) he gets right to the back of
this huge space. There can be very few groups he didn’t include
in his show at one point or another.
He also had a living room set on stage and ended up
inviting two of the audience to join him.
Every
year I feel I’m getting old and jaded and every year so far
Jason has proved me wrong by making me laugh from the start to
finish of his shows. I cant recommend him highly enough but as he
is selling out almost every night you might have to hold off until
next Fringe when I hope he will be back just as funny and manic as
ever!

Jason Byrne - don't go if you are
easily offended by extremely casual swearing!
Don't go if you have a fragile self
esteem or if you have been brought up never to laugh at others
being humiliated!
Well, we all went - following
Geoff and Sheila's recommendation, and the crowd - and never
stopped laughing throughout the hour long performance.
And the "victims" - the
members of the audience who found themselves on the stage
enduring the spotlight? They were so brilliant we thought they
had to be plants! As we shuffled out (all good things.....) we
were right next to the young medical student who had a starring
role and his girlfriend couldn't stop telling him how great he
had been! He just looked totally bemused!
Jason Byrne - an absolute must to see -
and, maybe - he'll make you a star turn for an hour. Next year
we might be coming to see your show!
