Adam Hills - Cut Loose
Off the Kerb Productions
Since catching the Big Red Fire Engine in 2001 I have been a confirmed Adam Hills fan. This hunky Ausie has a gentle humour that is inoffensive yet makes fun of almost every nationality you could think of.  His observations of his own heritage are particularly hilarious making comments about both the native Australians as well as the incoming convicts who were his ancestors. One particularly amusing anecdote is that of the Aboriginal meaning of the word Kangaroo.  When Cooke discovered Australia he saw this strange creature standing on its hind legs, with a long tail tiny, forearms and a pouch, motioning to the local Aboriginals (who couldn’t understand a word of the foreigners new language) asking what it was? Received the answer ‘Kangaroo’ which actually means ‘I don’t know’. Defiantly sounds better when Adam tells it.
This year Adams theme Cut Loose wasn’t apparent until the last gasp, thanks to so many tragedies and atrocities over the past few years any one of us could get caught up in something like the Bali bombings, so why not cut loose and tell close friends that you love them. I do love Adams humour and promise to try and see his show before the last Fringe performance next year, that is assuming he is back.
Adam we love you please come back in 2004.  Who cares what those tasteless French mineral water people think!
